Oh Spring; the time of year in the great state of Minnesota when the women shed their heavy, down-filled, winter parkas, for less heavy early spring parkas that are filled with slightly less down. I think I saw a collarbone once.
It's a beautiful time of year, let me tell you.
The difference between this month and the last, at least poker-wise, is not great, but there is a difference. I know it's hardly possible, but I've already played more hands, and made more in rakeback than I did all of last month. The weather contributes greatly to this, as I'd much rather sit inside on any given night than have to suffer through the horrendous, epididymus-chilling 40°F weather to get to a bar. Plus, my new bar, the bar that gives away free shots because the owner is drunk, is clear across the river, and taking a cab gets expensive, quickly.
On top of the increase in hands and rakeback(which is just a given, I suppose), I've also been dipping my left pinky toe in the mega-stakes 1/2NL games on Full Tilt. Yeah, I realize that most of you crap out more 1/2 buy-ins in your morning bowel movements than I have in my entire bankroll, but it's still a leap for me. In the past when I've played at this level, I've been promptly kicked back down, mostly due to my own vaginatastic passive play, more than the players being that much better than am I. Frankly, I'm surprised that most of these people can remember to breathe, let alone click a mouse and mash a keypad.
What else? Oh yeah, I'm also just 5 days away(4 after tonight) from obtaining Iron status on Full Tilt. I'm not sure what that truly means, or gets me, outside of being able to play in the Iron Freeroll next month, but it's still not something I've ever been able to say before. I've not had one day yet this month where I haven't hit at least 200 points, and oddly enough, my girlfriend still hasn't made me decide between her, and, well, not her. That's so nice that I think I'll keep her around a bit more.
Within the next few months, I'll also be moving to a larger apartment; an apartment that will be large enough to possibly, hopefully, good-goddamn maybe host a regular poker game. Finally? Yes, it's true that I live in a studio apartment right now, and even though it's one of the larger and more expensive(relative term, yes) studio apartments in my building, it's still not cool to have people using my bed as a chair while playing poker. Not to mention, um, it's my bed.
Right.
So, Drizz needs to get his license so I have another player that's not too scared to drive to the city, because I don't think I can stomach Canterbury, or limit poker.
Other than that, not much happenin' here in good, ol' Minneapolis.Just waiting for it to change from light parka weather, to heavy sweater weather. That's when it gets exciting.
